LPU organized Sensitization Program on Organ Donation Transplantation

Director AYKAI Hospital Dr Baldev Singh Aulakh and Dr J S Sandhu (Dayanand Medical College Hospital) awakened LPU Staff members for the societal cause

Jalandhar, October 29, 2018: Responding to an important societal need for sensitization on organ donation, Lovely Professional University (LPU) organized an awareness program on Organ Donation Transplantation at its campus. Director AYKAI Hospital (Ludhiana) Dr Baldev Singh Aulakh and Professor Nephrology Department (Dayanand Medical College Hospital, Ludhiana) Dr J S Sandhu awakened LPU Staff members on this vital topic for the societal cause. Close to 200 participants attended the session, and maximum of them signed the Organ Donation Forms and collected their Donor Cards.

Founder member of GLODAS (Gift of Life Organ Donation Awareness Society), Dr Aulakh discussed about the gaps in organ donation rate the (ODR) and explained the opt-in and opt-out consent systems in India and other European countries. The condition of brain stem death (BSD) was also clarified, and it was elucidated that solid organs can be donated only in the case of BSD. Emphasis was also laid on cornea donation. The importance of pledging and having a donor card was also talked about.

In fact, organ and tissue donation is considered as the ultimate humanitarian act of service for mankind. Such endeavours are positively associated with donation attitudes, willingness and donor status. At LPU, Human Resource Development Center is committed to add value for all stakeholders by organizing such awareness programs, and everyone should try and promote it at individual levels.
