LOK SABHA ELECTIONS 2019: “SUNDAY SVEEP” ACTIVITY TO BE ORGANISED IN ALL VIDHAN SABHA CONSTITUENCIES ON APRIL 7
Ludhiana, March 19, 2019: In view of the upcoming Lok Sabha 2019 elections, special emphasis is given towards educating the masses about getting themselves registered as voters and to exercise their right to vote through the SVEEP activities. The District Administration is organising awareness camps in all constituencies of the district, where people are educated about the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs)/VVPAT. Now, “Sunday SVEEP” activity would be organised in all constituencies of the district on April 7, 2019. Additional Deputy Commissioner Jagraon-cum-Nodal Officer SVEEP Mrs Neeru Katyal Gupta has asked all nodal officers to ensure maximum participation of voters so that polling percentage is increased. Mrs Gupta informed that for making people aware, “Sunday SVEEP” activity would be organised at 8-10 places in each constituency on April 7, where the voters would be educated about becoming a responsible voter, right to vote, EVM’s and VVPAT machines. This activity would be organised in all malls, parks/public places etc where the footfall of people is more. She informed that this time, VVPAT machines would be installed along with all EVM’s. During these awareness camps, people would be educated that the EVM’s are foolproof and the vote would be registered against only that candidate whom they vote for. For this purpose, the Election Commission of India would be installing VVPAT machines along with the EVM in all polling booths, where the voter would be able to see for 7 seconds the name and serial number of the candidate he/she has cast his/her vote. Mrs Neeru Katyal Gupta has directed all the nodal officers to complete the awareness campaign regarding VVPAT machines at all polling stations by March 31, 2019, so that after that, further SVEEP activities can be organised in the district. She directed the nodal officers to emphasise more in areas, where polling percentage was low during previous elections. It is pertinent to mention that it was under the SVEEP activities, that a district level National Voter Day was organised at Government College for Girls near Bharat Nagar Chowk, here on January 25, where as per the directions of the Election Commission of India toll free number 1950 was launched and booklet regarding Voter Awareness was also launched.
