Members of Rashtra Sewika Samiti on Tuesday celebrate the festival of Lohri with great enthusiasm at the Samiti Office in Mohalla Gobind Garh, Jalandhar City. The Samiti’s state Sah Baudhik Pramukh Krishma Kapur spoke about the importance and significance of the festival. State Pramukh Manju Gupta and the Samiti’s office in-charge Sareshta also spoke.
Jalandhar, January 13, 2015: A sense of rich cultural heritage along with a mood of festivity and jubilation could be seen in Lohri celebrations which was dedicated to ‘dhiyaan di lohri’at Guru Nanak Dev University College, Jalandhar.
Dr.J.S Randhawa, principal of the college along with teaching, non-teaching and students lighted the bonfire and congratulated everyone on this festival of vigour and zeal. Prof.M.S.Dhall talked about the historical significance of the festival. He added that ‘dhiyaan di lohri’ students presented a skit based on the importance of girl child in our society. Manjit strudent of B.Com, Rishab Puri and Durga of B.B.A and Deepali Sharma of B.Sc presented beautiful songs. The day was also marked by cultural performances such as Bhangra, lok geet, bolis and Gidha by the students. The audience was mesmerised with the different performances.
Talking to the present, the principal of the college Dr. Jaspal Singh Randhawa said that festivals play important role for making the cultural roots stronger and healthier. He also emphasised that this festival should be celebrated without any religious and cultural distinction. He wished that the institution would flourish by leaps and bounds in the coming years. Students having talent and capability will be appreciated and facilitated with different benefits by the college. Poor students will be dealt with special care and attention. With great zeal and enthusiasm the function ended with positive vibes. Everyone enjoyed to the fullest.
