Chandigarh, October 21, 2012: Punjab government has chalked out a comprehensive mobility plan to solve traffic problem in six major cities of the state. Disclosing this here today Chunni Lal Bhagat, Local Bodies Minister of Punjab, said this plan is being implemented for hassle free movement of people in urban inner areas.

The Minister said that Punjab Government has prepared comprehensive mobility plan for major six big cities Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Bathinda, Patiala and Pathankot. He added that this plan is framed keeping in view the increase of traffic in next 50 years. He said that this plan covers marking of overcrowded roads, possibility of widening of roads, solution for traffic problem, routes of city buses etc.  He said that sources for development and transport means would be provided to all these cities.

The Minister further said that city buses are being run in big cities Ludhiana, Amritsar and Jalandhar to solve traffic and mobility problem of people. He added that in Ludhiana with cost of Rs 65.20 crore 200 city buses would soon be on road with the help of Punjab Roadways Transport Corporation, out of which 40 buses are already running. The Minister said that with the help of PUNBUS 150 city buses would run in Amritsar with cost of Rs 33.20 crore.
