Ludhiana, May 23, 2017: Light rain/thundershowers likely at a few places during next 48 hours and at isolated places thereafter.
Giving a warning, Agroadvisory Bulletin released by PAU Ludhiana said that thunderstrom accompanied with squall was expected very likely at isolated places during next 48 hours.
The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to remain between 38-40oC and 24-27oC, respectively.
The maximum relative humidity is expected to remain between 34-47% and minimum between 18-27% during these days.
The Bulletin further reads as under:
"This is suitable time to sow rice nursery. Grow recommended varieties i.e. PR 126, PR 124, PR 123, PR 122, PR 121, PR 116, PR 114, PR 115, PR 113 etc. Complete the sowing of paddy nursery during the second fortnight of this month. Flood the field and puddle it well. Soak 8 kg seed in 10 litres of water containing 20g Bavistin and 1g Streptocycline for 8 to 10 hours before sowing.
Eradicate the weeds like kanghi buti, peeli buti, puth kanda etc growing on cotton field bunds, waste lands, road side and irrigation channels/canals to avoid further spread of whitefly to cotton field. Whitefly also attacks other alternate host crops like brinjal, tomato, okra, moong, mash and guar. Regular surveillance should be done for timely management on these crops.
Apply irrigations as per requirement tosunflower and spring maizecrop. The sunflower crop should not be under stress at flowering, soft dough and hard dough stages. ControlCabbage semi-looper, tobacco caterpillar and Bihar hairy caterpillarsby spraying 200 ml Nuvan 85 SL in 100 litres of water per acre. If necessary, repeat the spray after two weeks. These insecticides will also control jassid and other sucking pests.
Control theweedsfrom thesugarcanecrop. Apply paddy straw or rice husk or sugarcane trash @ 20-25 q/acre between the rows of sugarcane to reduce soil temperature and moisture loss. To save the crop fromblack bug, spray the crop with 350 ml of Dursban/ Lethal/ Massban/Goldban 20 EC (Chloropyriphos) in 400 litres of water per acre.
During prevailing weather, protect muskmelon, cucumber and water melon from downy mildew by spraying Indofil M-45/Kavach @ 300-600 g in 100-200 litres of water per acre at weekly interval. Under heavy disease risk situation, spray of Ridomil Gold @ 500 g or Aliette @ 600 g at 10 days interval. Tomato, brinjal, okra, chilli, watermelon and cucurbitscrops need to be irrigated at 5-7 days intervals depending on soil condition for the maximum development of fruits.Fruit borerattack intomatocrop can be checked by spraying 30 ml Fame 480 SL or 600 ml Carina 50 EC in 100 litres of water per acre. Observe waiting period of 3 days after the spray of Fame.
Rising temperature may adversely affect the fruit plants particularly young plants. Apply light and frequent irrigations to fruit plants in this season. The bearing trees such as peach, litchi, pear, plum and grapes need irrigation at 4-5 days interval. Protect the new plantation with thatches and trunks of fruit plants may be white washed. Spray Bayleton @ 40 g/100 litres of water to manage powdery mildew in grapes. To check physiological fruit drop in mango, spray 2,4-D sodium salt (Horticultural grade) @ 10 g/500 litres of water."
