Chandigarh, January 30, 2018: The Department of Ancient Indian History, Culture & Archaeology(AIHC &A), Panjab University organized a series of lecture by Professor Susmita Basu Majumdar from Department of Ancient Indian History and Culture of Kolkata University on “Recent Researches on Ashokan Inscriptions and Ashokan Sites” and “Mauryan Coins and Minting techniques of ancient coins” on January 29 and January 30, respectively.
She specializes in the study of Numismatics and Epigraphy. She highlighted the various methods and techniques of minting coins popular in ancient India. She also apprised of the efforts adopted by the ruling elite to check the forgery of coins by assigning serious punishment.
The students, research scholars and faculty from the Dept. of AIHC &A and allied Departments participated in the deliberation.
