Lecture on “Involvement of Youth in Social Work and Social Problems”

Chandigarh, July 8, 2019: Department of Sociology, Panjab University, Chandigarh in collaboration with Open eyes Foundation Chandigarh organized a lecture on " Involvement of Youth in Social Work and Social Problems ". Prof.Shankarji Jha, Dean of University Instructions, emphasized the significance of selfless work for the nation. Dr.Rani Mehta ,Chairperson, Department of Sociology highlighted the need for providing better education and good health especially to deprived sections of society and women through voluntary efforts. Mr. Vinod Kumar, Assistant Professor, Sociology, focused on the various aspects of involving youth in social work. Mr. Vivek Trivedi, Social Development Officer, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, discussed the various programmes of the foundation, headed by a young school teacher Mr. Sandeep, such as distributing free books to children and sanitary napkins to adolescent girls in colonies of Chandigarh. Prof. Kiranpreet Kaur, Sociology, appreciated the tasks undertaken by the foundation. The event was well attended by teachers, NGO heads and students from the region and volunteers were felicitated by giving them certificates and prizes.
