Jalandhar, August 19, 2015: Dr.(Mrs.) Sushma Chawla, an eminent Gynecologist of Jalandhar and also the President of Jalandhar Zone of NARCHI (National Association for Reproductive Child Health of India) was the resource person for a lecture on 'Reproductive Health of Adolescent Girls' in Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar. This lecture was organized by NSS Wing of the College. Principal, Dr. Sucharita welcomed the resource person. Dr. Chawla stressed on the fact that female health was not a priority in the Indian families. She informed that 1 out of 8 India women was likely to suffer from breast cancer and 1 out of 20 was likely to get cervical cancer which were preventable due to the availability of the vaccine. She also stressed on the need for counseling of the girls before marriage. In the lecture attended by students and staff, she emphasized on the need for regular health checkups for all girls after reaching adolescence.
