Chandigarh, July 16, 2014: Punjab is all set to evolve a comprehensive policy to come out with a permanent solution to lingering problems of partition of land & property cases of NRIs.

Reviewing the problems of NRIs in a high level meeting today, NRI Affiars Minister Jathedar Tota Singh instructed the department to come out with a policy framework in consultation with Revenue and Urban Development Department for expeditious solution to partition cases especially of NRIs.

Jathedar Tota Singh said that 80 percent complaints of NRIs are regarding land disputes therefore such a system should be evolved that time bound justice could be provided to the NRIs. He said that NRIs do not have much time to settle their property disputes when they visit Punjab. He instructed the officials to study all such aspects while drafting policy. 

NRI Affairs Minister said that Punjab Government is also ready to amend the present revenue act to provide justice to the NRIs in property partition cases.

The Minister instructed the officials to deal all complaints of NRIs on merit in a transparent manner without any discrimination to provide justice to the people. He asked the officials for prompt reply to the complaints of NRI’s and time bound disposal. He also asked the officials to review all the complaints on regular basis.

Others prominent present in the meeting included Mr. Sanjay Kumar Principal Secretary NRI Affairs Department, Gurpreet Deo IGP NRI Police and Mr. H.S Sandhu SP, NRI Police.
