Ludhiana, October 25, 2017: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, GADVASU, Booh, Tarn Taran organized a vocational training programme on ‘Integrated Goat and Fish Farming’ at its Campus. Thirteen farmers belonging to different villages of District Tarn Taran had participated in the training course. Scientific knowledge on various aspects of goat as well as fish farming was devised in this training for skill development and self entrepreneurship of farmers for economic upliftment.

Speaking in the inaugural session of the training programme, Deputy Director (Training) and Course Director, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dr.Balwinder Kumar stressed upon the development of skill of the rural population of the district Tarn Taran. Vocational training help farmers, farm women, and rural youth in developing the agricultural entrepreneurship through fish and livestock diversification. Dr. Kumar also highlighted various facilities developed and provided by GADVASU and KVK.

Course Coordinators, Dr Shashi Pal and Dr Bhanu Prakash highlighted the importance of goat and fish farming for earning extra income from these ventures. The topics covered in the training course by faculty of KVK, College of Veterinary Science and College of Fisheries from GADVASU included preparation/construction of goat shed, different species, fodder/feed management for goats, marketing of goats, value addition of goat products, construction of fish pond, different fish species suitable for culture, fish feeding and harvesting, problems and solutions in fish farming along with integration of goat and fish farming, etc. On the penultimate day of training all the trainees visited goat farm of Mr. Baljinder Singh who is rearing more than 200 goats of beetle variety at village Kulla, Tehsil Patti, District Tarn Taran and discussed all the important aspects related to goat and for establishing fish farm.

Dr Shashi Pal and Dr Bhanu Prakash proposed the vote of thanks at the valedictory function and thanked the trainees and visiting guest and faculty for the efforts to make this training programme a success.
