KVK Samrala Organises Field Day On Summer Moong

Ludhiana, May 26, 2016: Aiming at boosting the production of pulses, the Punjab Agricultural University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Samrala organized a field day on “Summer Moong.” Experts gave demonstrations on the cultivation of moong variety SML 668 in six blocks of eight villages of Punjab. The demonstrations were carried in nearly 100 acres of land of 80 farmers. The programme was a part of the field level demonstrations on summer moong, being organized by the Union Agriculture Ministry in various districts of Punjab to promote crop diversification.

On the occasion, Dr P.P. Singh, Technical Officer, Union Agriculture Ministry; Dr S.S. Sekhon, Chief Agriculture Officer, Ludhiana; Dr S.C. Sharma, Associate Director, KVK, Samrala; Dr Devinder Tiwari, Extension Specialist, KVK, Samrala; and a team from Doordarshan and All India Radio visited the demonstrations in the village Kothe Ponne, block Jagraon, district Ludhiana. An interaction was held among the experts and progressive farmers regarding agronomic practices for successful cultivation of pulses and their marketing. A Kisan Divas was also organized on “Moong” in the fields of the progressive farmer, S. Harpal Singh, a Sarpanch.

Dr Sharma urged the farmers to adopt crop diversification, save natural resources, acquire training in moong processing and form a Farmer Producer Company for the self-marketing of their products.

Dr Sekhon called upon the farmers to reap maximum benefit from the schemes, being offered by the Department of Agriculture, Punjab
