KVK AND FASC, SANGRUR ORGANISED KISAN SAMMELAN-CUM-FIELD DAY AT TARANJI KHERA

Ludhiana, March 1, 2017: The Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kheri and Farm Advisory Service Centre, Sangrur organised a Kisan Sammelan-cum-field day programme on Rabi crops at adopted village Taranji Khera (Khadyali) in which more than 500 farmers participated.

Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest Dr. Gurmeet Singh Butter, Additional Director of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana inspired the farmers to grow oilseeds and pulses in their own fields to fulfil their consumption needs. He stressed upon farmers to shun the practice of burning paddy and wheat residues to conserve environment. He advised the farmers to adopt short duration paddy varieties like PR 126, PR 124, PR 122 and PR 121 as these varieties consume less water and other inputs for maturity. He assured them that they would be supplied sufficient quantity of seeds of theses varieties at their doorsteps through Krishi Vigyan Kendra and Farm Advisory Service Centre. He also appealed the farmers to reduce area under un-recommended water guzzling paddy varieties like Pusa 44 and Pili Pusa. He suggested the farmers to make contact with KVK Scientists for adoption of subsidiary occupations like bee-keeping, mushroom cultivation, dairy farming, piggery, poultry, goat farming, etc.

Dr. Mandeep Singh, Associate Director (Trg.), KVK, Kheri shared tips for reducing the farm expenditure in order to enhance income. He also told about various training courses conducted by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra for rural youth. Dr. Buta Singh Romana, Incharge, FASC, Sangrur discussed the tips for successful cultivation of vegetable crops and various activities conducted in adopted villages under Rural Development Fund Scheme. Dr. Ravinder Kaur, Assistant Prof. (Horticulture) shed light on growing of vegetables in kitchen garden and Dr. Ashok Kumar, Assistant Prof. (Soil Science) provided information on method of soil and water sampling and interpretation of soil test reports.

Amongst team of PAU scientists, Dr. Amandeep Singh Brar deliberated on options for crop diversification, improved varieties of Kharif crops and integrated weed management. Dr. Amarjeet Singh deliberated on insect-pest and disease management in various rabi and vegetable crops. Dr. Roopinder Singh shed light on integrated nutrient management in Kharif crops. Dr. Dilbag Singh discussed about chilli cultivation and improved varieties of different vegetables. Dr. Tersem Chand encouraged the farmers for processing of farm produce. Dr. Ranjit Singh discussed about the balanced nutrition for cattle.

S. Randhir Singh Samuran, Chairman, Panchayat Samiti, S. Gurjeet Singh, Chairman, Market Committee Dirba, Dr. Varinder Singh Gill, Agricultural Officer, Sunam and Dr. Ravi Kumar, Senior Veterinary Officer, Sunam also spoke on the occasion. S. Baljeet Singh, S. Zora Singh Dhindsa and S. Narinder Singh Dhindsa presented the vote of thanks.

The Chief guest Dr. Buttar visited the demonstrations plots of gobhi sarson, gram, peas, chilli, capsicum and happy seeder sown wheat at the farms of S. Bant Singh, Kaka Singh and Happy Singh at Villages Taranji Khera and Khadial.

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Farm Advisory Service Centre, Kirat Self Help Group, Markfed, Milkfed and Department of Fisheries displayed an impressive exhibition.
