KRISHI VIGYAN KENDRA, HOSHIARPUR ORGANIZES FIELD DAY ON GROUNDNUT CULTIVATION

Ludhiana, October 6, 2017: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur in collaboration with Department of Agriculture, Bhunga organized a field day on groundnut cultivation in village Sheikhan, in block Bhunga, for promotion of groundnut cultivation in the district and for showcasing the performance of cluster frontline demonstrations on groundnut.
At the outset, Sh.Harmandeep Singh, Agriculture Development Officer, Bhunga welcomed the experts and the farmers on this occasion. He appealed to the farmers to shun the practice of burning of paddy residue and shared the different strategies for paddy straw management. Various technical lectures were delivered for the benefit of the farmers. Dr. Pawitar Singh, Asstt. Prof. (Soil Science) discussed about the recommended groundnut cultivation practices, soil testing, fertilizer management and agrochemicals for weed control. Er. Ajaib Singh, Asstt. Prof. (Agri. Engg.) discussed the machineries being used for decortication, sowing, digging and threshing operations. He also asked the farmers to venture into processing of groundnut for realizing more profit from their enterprise. Dr. Arunbir Singh, Asstt. Prof. (Animal Science), shed light on the management of dairy animals in the coming season. He also impressed upon the farmers/farmwomen regarding usage of mineral mixture and uromin lick for the milch animals. Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Deputy Director (Training), KVK Hoshiarpur discussed about the pest management in groundnut and role of KVK for farming community of the area. He also gave an insight into the purpose of the cluster frontline demonstrations and the efforts being undertaken by Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana for further promotion of its cultivation in the niche areas. Dr. Bons also shared important hints on cultivation practices for rabi crops-wheat, gobhi sarson, gram and lentil.
Sh. Sarwinder Singh, Agricultural Officer, Bhunga highlighted the impending challenges and problems in groundnut cultivation in this niche area and various schemes of the Deptt. of Agriculture for the benefit of the farmers. He also asked the farmers to keep constant touch with the Punjab Agricultural University and Deptt. of Agriculture for the redressal of the agricultural problems and for gaining knowledge on latest technologies. The farmers and the experts had a fruitful discussion on various doubts regarding groundnut cultivation and other queries.
A formal vote of thanks to the experts and the farmers/farmwomen was proposed by Dr Maninder Singh Bons. KVK also put up an exhibition regarding latest agricultural techniques by PAU and for sale of seed of berseem, taramira, gobhi sarson, toria, gram, lentil, uromin lick, mineral mixture rhizobium cultures, winter vegetable seed kits and PAU literature for the benefit of the farmers.
