Knitwear Club submits memo to Principal Secretary

Ludhiana, February 8, 2013: Knitwear Club, Ludhiana has submitted a memorandum to Karan A Singh, Principal Secretary, Industry and Commerce, Punjab.

Among others, Narinder Miglani (General Secretary), Rajinder Bhushan Maini, Jaswant Takkar (Senior Vice Presidents) were present on the occasion.

The delegates spoke about absence of exhibition centre in this industrial city. They said the hosiery industry holds more than 10 events per year Even the industry is a great revenue and employment generator; inspite of all these facts, industry is facing the problem like the absence of Exhibition Hall. In the absence of a stable and spacious place, Ludhiana industrialists have to put up temporary set ups to organise the events and exhibitions which consume both time and money.

On the issue of mix land use, they said this problem is associated with non- inclusion of areas in Mix Land Use covered under Master Plan of Ludhiana. As the areas lie in industrial area and because of non-inclusion number of problems are being faced by the industrialists. There is a need to restructure the master plan once again because non inclusion of these areas in the mixed land use category has incapacitated the unit owners to deal with certain government departments such as pollution control board, PSPCL and District Industry Centre for getting Entrepreneurs Memorandum Number, applications for extension of load from electricity department.

The areas which are left in mix land use/Master Plan  are; Bajwa Nagar, Kalyan Nagar, Guru Nanak Dev Nagar, Shivpuri, New Shivpuri, Sunder Nagar,  New Madhopuri, Kailash Nagar, (Basti Jodhewal), Guru Vihar (Rahon Road), Chandigarh Road, Hambran Road, Haibowal, Chander Nagar, Guru Arjan Dev Nagar, Kali Sarak, Noorwala Road Ludhiana.

They pointed out that Ghati Jiwa Ram, a well known and renowned area of Ludhiana exists in the mix land use but Bajwa Nagar which lies in Ghati Jiwa Ram is also a key area for the industry and as famous and important  as Ghati Jiwa Ram is not included in the Master Plan.

About the setting up of new focal points, they said being a vast and the oldest industry, Knitwear Industry has scattered in different areas of the city. Still the industry is existing in non –designated areas as there is lack of designated areas to make it a bunch and easy to approach. So Knitwear Industry needs particular designated areas so that the industry can shift over there.
