KNITWEAR CLUB LUDHIANA: Chairman terms today’s meeting “illegal”

Ludhiana, December 19, 2012: The ongoing conflict between Knitwear Club, Ludhiana president Darshan Dawar and chairman Vinod K. Thapar is likely to widen in the near future.

In a joint statement here today, the club president Darshan Dawar and general secretary Narinder Miglani said a meeting of office bearers, executive members and special Invitees was called today by Dawar at the premises of  Jyoti Poplay Hosiery  Bahadur-ke-Road, which was attended by about 75 members.

They told that after discussions among the members, a resolution was passed unanimously “that the mandate of Punjab National Bank, Civil lines Ludhiana where Knitwear Club having the account No. 0297000100526989 be changed with immediate effect and from now onwards there will two signatories out of four signatories for operation of bank account but the signatures of the president will be compulsory meaning  thereby signatory  number (1) President Darshan Dawar and any one out of three namely Narinder Miglani – General Secretary, Harish Kairpal- Treasurer and Vinod K. Thapar- Chairman.  Earlier three signatories were operating the account”.

They said the meeting “further taking a serious note on the activities of duo that is Chairman and Treasurer it was unanimously passed that Darshan Dawar President is fully authorised to take a suitable action against the duo which may even lead to expulsion”.

“Further any such person who ever harms the image of Knitwear Club and acts against the interest of the club in particular and industry in general may also face expulsion.  It was also decided to hold a meeting of the General House to take a suitable action and ratify the decision of the executive committee meeting held on today (19-12-12)”, the meeting decided.

Both Dawar and Miglani claimed that the prominent persons who attended the meeting included Dinesh Lakra, Sham Bansal , Sudershan Jain, Vipan Vinayak , Subhash Saini, Baldev Gupta, Ravinder Vasan , Tarun Jain Bawa, Ashok Poplay, Dinesh Bhatia, Jaswant Takkar, Ashok Makkar, Vipan Thapar, Mahesh Pruthi, Varinder King, Rajesh Dhingra, Amarjeet Madhok, A.S. Dua , Lalit Jain, Sanjeev Jain, Harish Chhabra, Varinder Sehgal, Roop lal Jain and Munish Goel.

When contacted late this evening, Thapar told City Air News that he did not attend the meeting about which he informed the president in advance. Citing reason, he said it was a the Club’s precedent to hold such meetings either in the Club’s office or at a suitable place. He said the meeting’s venue was not a suitable place to hold meeting.

Thapar even termed the today’s meeting as “illegal”, stating that the organisers of today’s meeting had been getting signatures of many office bearers, executive members and special Invitees on a register in advance for the last three days to prove that the signatories “participated” in the today’s meeting. He said any decision could be taken only with the two-third majority, which was not there in the today’s meeting held by the president.

Interestingly, addressing a press conference today at the Club’s office at 4 p.m., claiming with “regard to the issues created by some office-bearers in the Press for the last few days”. He invited the local media persons through email ID [email protected]

On the other hand, both Dawar and Miglani sent invitations to the Press stating, Knitwear Club is going to organise an executive committee meeting and press conference today at Jyoti  Poplay Hosiery works, Deep Vihar , Phambran Road, Near Lovely Garments  (Landmark – Opp. Dyeing Complex, Jaypee Cement Wali Gali), Bahadur Ke Road, Ludhianatodiscuss the problems going on in the club. This invitation was sent through email ID [email protected]

Perhaps this is for the first time in the history of the Club that such a situation has arisen. The Club was constituted way back in the year 1984. In the initial years, the Club had merely about 100 members. This number is over 700 now.
