Jalandhar, October 2, 2019: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar, organized Swachhta Hi Sewa programme in collaboration with the Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar to celebrate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
It was a district level function attended by many distinguished luminaries.
On the occasion Principal Prof.(Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi, Principal KMV, B.Purushartha, Divisional Commissioner, Jalandhar Division, Jagdish Raj Raja, Mayor Jalandhar, Varinder K Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar, Diprava Lakra, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar, MLA Sushil Kumar Rinku, MLA Bawa Henry & various distinguished religious leaders like Baba Kashmira Singh, Father Michael Emmy Rector and Maulana Shamshed Hasan Nasir were present.
The programme commenced with a ritual welcome of the guests by presenting them with the planters on the occasion. A tribute was also paid to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and the 2nd Prime Minister of India Lal Bahadur Shastri by lighting the ritual lamp of the knowledge with the chanting of Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram and Vaishnav Jan bhajans.
Principal Prof.(Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi addressing the gathering averred that the week long programme is being celebrated by KMV on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. She reminded one & all that KMV is the seat of learning for women in Northern India & the college has been witness to the start of many revolutions in pre-independence days & post-independence days. KMV have seen leaders of all statures to support its noble causes. She took great pride in apprising all that Gandhiji in his book Harijan had lauded KMV for its contribution to society by saying, "Gujarat National College should be modelled on KMV. Under autonomy KMV stresses on value added programmes which sensitize its students to become better citizens and contribute to the welfare of the society.
During today's programme the audience was acquainted with the Angikar campaign of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The keynote address was given by B. Purushartha, Divisional Commissioner, Jalandhar Division. In his address, he stressed on the fact that the people of India need to follow Gandhiji's ideology of non-violence, cleanliness & compassion along with unity in diversity to become a developed nation & to become the global leader.
Bawa Henry, MLA and Sushil Kumar Rinku, MLA also addressed the gathering. KMV Principal Prof.(Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi was honoured on this occasion. Some faculty members namely Ashima Sahni, Harpreet, Dr Madhumeet, Dr Gurjot and Dr Monica were also honoured for contributing to the noble cause of creating a Swacch & Sashakt society. During the end of the programme, the distinguished personalities from the four wards of Jalandhar were honoured for their exemplary contribution to the Plastic Free programme. Moreover, 250 Safai Karamcharis who have been given special training under the Swacch Bharat Mission were also honoured.
