KMV Organizes a National Symposium on Nanostructured Materials
Jalandhar, February 22, 2019; Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar's PG Department of Physics organized a 2 day National Symposium entitled "Nano structured Materials: Structure, Properties and Applications". It is worth mentioning here that this National Symposium has been supported by four agencies namely Materials Research Society of India (MRSI), Bangalore, Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Mumbai, Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) New Delhi and Gujarat Borosil Ltd. New Delhi. The NSNM-19 is the most comprehensive symposium focused on various aspects of advances in Nanostructured materials and their Applications. There were 3 technical sessions and poster presentation on first day. The first day of the symposium commenced with the inaugural address by Principal Prof.(Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi. During the inauguration, She welcomed all the resource persons and delegates. She averred that the area of Nano materials is perhaps one of the fastest growing areas of materials science. It aims at tailoring materials with desired functionalities for applications in emerging technologies. It was followed by the keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Govind Prasad Kothiyal. The topic of his speech was Quest for New Materials: A journey through micro-to- Nano-crystalline Glass/glass-ceramics. In his talk, Dr. Govind highlighted the applications of glass/glass-ceramics related to optical fibres, window panes/ architectural materials, optical components, host for laser emitter, windshields, sealants, biomedical, matrices for the containment of radioactive waste etc. Further, he also illustrated some of these concepts through the results related to low and high temperature sealants, machinable glass-ceramics and biomaterials. The keynote speech was followed by the Vote of thanks by Mrs Parminder Kaur, Convener, NSNM-19 and Head, PG Department of Physics. She thanked four premier national bodies for their major role in conducting such in depth symposium to promote scientific temper and education in our country. The technical session for the Day 1 started with the invited talk by Dr Hitesh Sharma (IKG PTU, Kapurthala). The topic of his talk was Carbon Nanomaterials: Generating Research Excitement Again and Again. He discussed various types of carbon nanostructures, current research interests of applications of carbon nanostructures related to energetic materials. The second invited talk of the day was given by Dr Ramandeep Singh Johal (IISER, Mohali). The topic of his talk was "Quantum thermodynamics and nanoscale thermal machines". He stressed on the fact that in recent years there has been a lot of interest in extending thermodynamics into the quantum regime. He also gave a review on the recent progress in theoretical approaches as well as their experimental implementation. The third technical session of the day was conducted by Dr Gopi Sharma, Director Kaushal Kendra, Kanya Maha Vidyalaya. The topic of her talk was Structural investigation of Bismuth Borate glasses. In her talk she presented novel characteristics of glasses. She said that the future of modern sciences is unimaginable without glasses. Further she discussed about linear and non linear optical properties of glasses. Invited talk were followed by Poster Presentations. Research scholars, students from various universities and colleges participated in this session. Principal Prof.(Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi congratulated the Department of Physics for organizing NSNM-19 and averred that KMV always promote quality research and quality education and these type of symposiums are a regular feature in the college so that the students as well as the faculty members can be motivated to pursue the quality research in the college.
