KMV Organizes a National Seminar on Recent Advances in Life Sciences

Jalandhar, April 3, 2019: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- the Heritage & Autonomous institution, Jalandhar's PG Department of Zoology organized a one day national seminar under DBT star college status. The Guest of Honour for the seminar was Dr.Onkar Singh Baraich from Department of Zoology & Environmental Sciences, Punjabi University, Patiala. The topic of his seminar was "Status and Impact of Industrial Pollution on Wetlands in Punjab''. He explained the basics of wetlands and Ramsar sites and their status in India and also laid emphasis on reclamation of wetlands by showing pictorial presentation. He showed his concern for Global Warming and also made a revelation as to how it was also affecting the Gharial population. Dr.Jyoti Parkash, Central University, Bathinda was the second resource person during the seminar. He wonderfully explained the concept of Brain plasticity, its neurons and their feedback mechanisms. The third resource person for the seminar was Dr. Pradyumn Kumar, Emeritus Scientist from Indian Agriculture Research Institute, New Delhi. He discussed on topic ''Tri- trophic Interactions in insects'' and also laid emphasis on Insect-plant Inter-dependency and how they are interacting and evolving. He also showed various experimental results of DIMBOA and phenolic acids on insects infecting crops.
Principal Prof.(Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi thanked all the resource persons and also lauded the efforts of Zoology Department for organizing this national seminar. She also averred that such type of seminars go a long way in creating interest about the subject in young and vibrant minds so that the students can be motivated to explore all the aspects of the subject. The students stood to gain much from this seminar. All the queries were satisfactorily answered by the eminent resource persons.
