Ludhiana, July 15, 2015: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Budh Singh Wala) of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organized a “Kisan Sammelan” at the village Dhudike, Block Moga –I. The Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi sponsored the programme, which focused on kharif crops.
Dr R.S. Sidhu, Director of Extension Education, who was the chief guest, said, “Diversification is the need of hour.”
In his presidential remarks, Dr R.S Brar, Zonal Project Director, congratulated the progressive farmers of the area for playing a leading role in the adoption of direct seeded rice technique in the district.
Dr G.S. Buttar, Additional Director of Extension Education and Agronomy expert, encouraged the farmers to adopt integrated farming model for better returns.
Dr A.P.S. Brar, Associate Director, KVK Moga, emphasized on the adoption of kitchen garden model for diversification as well as economic and nutritional security.
Scientists namely Dr Amanpreet, Agronomist; Dr Gaganjyot Kaur, Farm Engineer; Dr Meharban Singh, Soil Scientist; Dr Mandeep Singh, Plant Pathologist; Dr R.S. Chandi, Entomologist; Dr Mahesh Narang, Farm Engineer; and Dr Thakur Singh, Farm Engineer delivered lectures on kharif crops and their production-protection technologies.
Various activities carried out by KVK, Moga were highlighted. The trainees displayed and sold the products prepared under the guidance of KVK, Moga. A demonstration of walk behind paddy transplanter was also given at the farmer’s field by the Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, PAU.
