Dharamshala, April 21, 2016: IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab has picked Dharamsala as its second home venue to host three matches next month.
"We are happy to announce that Kings XI Punjab will be playing our three home games in Dharamsala. We are grateful and thankful to the HPCA for their support in helping us make this transition seamless at such short notice," the franchise said in a statement.
These three Kings XI Punjab's home matches that were earlier scheduled in Nagpur will now be played in Dharamshala.
This news of IPL matches to Dharamshala have proved wrong the earlier statements made by the HPCA officials in March this year saying “ After India's World Twenty20 match against Pakistan was shifted from Dharamshala to Kolkata, the picturesque venue lost Kings XI Punjab's home games in the IPL as well, due to uncooperative attitude of Virbhadra lead Himachal Government.” Officials also said during that period that no match of any kind is now possible here.
“Franchisees do not want to take the risk of hosting matches here (in Dharamshala) due to the politics played by Congress-led state government. They are trying to harm the HPCA 's image directly or indirectly because the association president is Anurag Thakur who belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party,” one HPCA spokesperson said it in march. Two reasons are said to be behind this request from KXIP. First, the HP government levies a massive entertainment tax during IPL games and second, it charged a hefty amount for providing security to players as well as officials.
But with new announcements the situation is totally different now.
