Khanna (Ludhiana), May 23, 2016: Khanna Sub-Division today celebrated Samanta Diwas under its "Sahyog-partnership for a better future" initiative. SDM Khanna Mr Showkat Ahmad Parray informed that under the initiative, each private school in the sub-division will adopt one or more government primary schools and there will be exchange programmes aiming at improving the infrastructure and education quality of the government schools besides allowing students from the two groups of schools to share their ideas and perspectives.
As a part of initiative, Samanta Diwas was celebrated in 23 private schools of Khanna Sub-Division, in which around 8000 students from 107 government and 23 private schools participated. Today, several sports and cultural events were organised by the host schools, which were well received by the students.
This programme started with the students from private schools welcoming students from government schools into their premises. The students from private schools remained “Buddy Peer” for the students from government schools for entire day and they shared various things that would help them in life. The students from host schools were also given questionnaires that were filled by the students of visiting schools.
SDM Mr Showkat Ahmad Parray informed that Sahyog is an initiative of Sub-Divisional Administration, Khanna that aims at improving the infrastructure and quality of education of the Government Primary Schools by establishing an adoption model for a sustained long term relationship between Private and Government Schools. The initiative also aims at promoting a sense of equality amongst the children of two groups of schools by bringing them into direct contact with each other through various events and programmes that, besides allowing them to jointly participate in academic, cultural, sports and other co-curricular activities, also help them in understanding each other’s perspectives of life, challenges and attitudes.
He said that through this initiative, they are trying to establish mechanisms to enable students of private schools (mostly belonging to middle and upper class) and Government Schools (Mostly belonging to lower income groups) to jointly participate in various academic and non-academic activities thereby putting the constitutional principle of fraternity and equality into practice.
He said this initiative would provide them a Common platform for students helping them exchange their ideas, hobbies, interests, perspectives of life etc, provide a mechanism of peer to peer learning between the teachers belonging to the two groups of schools so as to improve the quality of education imparted, to allow the students to nourish and flourish in every situation and condition and allow them to enjoy each other’s company irrespective of their class/ living standard and instill a sense of philanthropy and charity in students.
The SDM stated that Samanta Diwas would be made a regular feature and would be celebrated every year in the last week of May.
The SDM said that as it would remain a regular feature for all schools and in the end, three best performing schools would be chosen, which would be honoured during the Republic Day celebrations.
