Ludhiana, September 6, 2019: ‘Guru Nanak: Enlightenment Personified’ - a book written by Dr.Arvinder Singh, Principal, Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Ludhiana has been released in UK. The book was released by Professor Geoff Layer, Vice Chancellor of University of Wolverhampton (United Kingdom), Mayor of Wolverhampton city Claire Darke, and Dr.Opinderjit Takkhar, Director of the Centre for Sikh and Punjabi Studies University of Wolverhampton (United Kingdom) in the International Conference on ‘A Journey of 550 Years: Sikh Studies in Academia’ dedicated to Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 550th Birth Anniversary organized by the Centre for Sikh and Punjab Studies of University of Wolverhampton (United Kingdom). While sharing his views Dr. Arvinder Singh expressed his happiness over the release of his book in the international conference and said that in this book he has tried to analyse the universal teachings and philosophy of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji from the socio-political point of view. He further said that Guru Nanak urged for a social, political and economic system based on democratic values and he strongly advocated the principles of plural society, secularism, unity of mankind, individual liberty, religious freedom, fraternity, socio-economic equality, respect for human dignity and rights etc. Dr. Singh said that the roots of these concepts which became the cornerstone of modern era and renaissance movement can be found in the divine hymns of Guru Nanak. Dr. Arvinder Singh also mentioned that in this book he also tried to highlight the Guru Nanak’s role in creation of casteless and classless society and relevance of his socio-religious thought in the present scenario. He further said that 550 years ago Guru Nanak had also advocated gender equality and raised a strong voice for equal status and equal rights for oppressed classes in the society. During this book release ceremony the eminent Sikh scholars Prof. Pashaura Singh, Prof. Kehar Singh, Prof. Van Dusenbery, Prof. Shinder Thandi, Prof. Doris Jakobsh, Principal Sujinder Sangha, Prof. Toby Braden Johnson, Prof. Himadri Banerjee, Prof. Jasjit Singh, Prof. Ronki Ram, Prof. Jaspal Kaang and other eminent scholars were especially present. During this international conference Dr. Arvinder Singh also presented his research paper on Guru Nanak's model of multi-cultural society and peaceful coexistence. He has also written eight books and more than eighty papers so far on various themes and actively pursuing his academic interests and research activities.
