JUDGMENT: 5 years RI to Puducherry JE of PWD in a bribery case

Jalandhar, December 15, 2012: The Principal District Judge, Puducherry has convicted G Malaimani, the then Junior Engineer of Public Works Department (PWD), Puducherry in a bribery case and sentenced him to undergo five years Rigorous Imprisonment with a fine of Rs.50, 000. 

A case was registered based on the complaint of a contractor of Public Works Department, Puducherry alleging that G. Malaimani, while working as a Junior Engineer, in the Office of the Executive Engineer, Public Works Department, Puducherry, demanded a bribe of Rs.20,000 from him for clearing the pending bills relating to repairs and alteration work of office in the civil supplies office building at Puducherry, which was undertaken by him. Subsequently, a  trap was laid by CBI and during the trap proceedings, G. Malaimani was caught red handed while demanding  and accepting  the bribe amount of Rs. 20,000 from the complainant.

After completion of investigation, a charge report was filed against G. Malaimani by CBI before the court of Principal District Judge, Puducherry U/s 7 and Sections 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

 The Court found the accused guilty and convicted him.
