Jalandhar, December 4, 2012 : The Special Judge-II, CBI, Ernakulam (Kerla) has convicted A.K. Shamsuddin, former Deputy Chief Controller of Explosives, Ernakulam, U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) of PC Act and sentenced him to undergo three Simple Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 5 lakh in a Disproportionate Assets (DA) case.
The investigation was conducted which revealed that the alleged accused A.K. Samsuddin while functioning as Deputy Chief Controller of Explosives at Rourkela and Cochin, had acquired movable and immovable assets disproportionate to his known source of income in his name and in the name of his family members. During the check period from January 1, 1997 to October 31, 2002, he was found in possession of properties and pecuniary resources to the tune of about Rs. 12.80 lakhs.
This accused was also trapped by CBI sluths, while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 3,000 on October 7, 2002, at his office in Ernakulam in connection with issue of short firer permit under Explosive Act. During searches at the office and residential premises of the accused, huge deposits of cash investment by him in his name and in the joint names of himself & family members were unearthed.
Accordingly, a case of Disproportionate Assets (DA) was registered against A. K. Samsuddin as an off shoot of the main trap case and on finalisation of investigation, a charge sheet U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) of PC Act was filed before the Court of Special Judge-II, CBI, Ernkualam on 20.07.2004.
Earlier, he was sentenced to undergo one year Rigorous Imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 20,000 on August 9, 2006 in a bribery case.
