Chandigarh, October 16, 2015: The officers of the department of AYUSH had visited the Government Ayurvedic College Patiala, the only Government Ayurvedic College in the state. This college has been a very prestigious college but during last some years due to non seriousness of the then authorities, admissions had not been made for a period of 3 years. Last year too with the personal interest taken by the Medical Education & Research Minister, Punjab Mr. Anil Joshi, the admissions were made after a gap of three years. The AYUSH authorities had pointed out certain deficiencies of faculty members this year too for which again the Minister personally took up the matter with Mr. Yassopad Naik, Union Minister for AYUSH.
With his efforts, the permission to make admissions to the BAMS course has been allowed for the academic session 2015-16. Disclosing this here today Mr. Joshi informed that it was not possible to engage new faculty on the basis of the government decision to recruit such persons on the basic of the salary. He said that though against a shortfall of 8 faculty members, selection process was started but only 2 teachers could be recruited on the basic salary and only one had joined. The Minister informed that he has issued directions to the Secretary Medical Education & Research to immediately put up a proposal to recruit faculty as per the grade/scale by paying full salary.
The Minister informed that he has also taken up the case of some teachers of this prestigious college, codes of which have not been approved by the AYUSH this year. These teachers have been working in this college for the last more than 20 years and there had not been any problem in regard to their teaching codes all these years. With this approval coming in it was very likely that in the academic year admissions to the MD courses will also be made at Patiala. The Minister appealed to the entire faculty to work in tandem for the upliftment of this prestigious college so that there in proper propagation of the science of Ayurveda.
