JOINT MEETING OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF PUNJAB ACADEMY OF SCIENCES PATIALA AND ORGANIZING COMMITTEE OF PUNJAB SCIENCE CONGRESS HELD AT DAVIET

Jalandhar, December 20, 2018: A joint meeting of Executive Committee of Punjab Academy of Sciences, Patiala and Organizing Committee of Punjab Science Congress was held at DAVIET today to decide the finer nuances of the Punjab Science Congress to be organized from February 7th-9th ,2019. The theme of the upcoming conference is Innovating Science and Technology in the Service of Society.
Speaking on the occasion, A.S Ahluwalia, President, Punjab Academy of Sciences appreciated the hard work put in by DAVIET to conceptualize and organize the Congress. He informed that it is going to be the 22nd Punjab Science Congress which aims to provide a common platform to academicians, researchers and people from industry to participate in a mutual exchange of information to create invaluable intellectual wealth. He shared that PAS, Patiala was established in the year 1996 and till date it has One Thousand and Five Hundred Life members who all are committed to bring a positive change in society through their scientific and technical inputs. Sharing the aims of the Academy, he stated that it is committed to encourage original research related to current problems being faced by the state of Punjab. He also stated that the Academy is committed to promote interdisciplinary Research and to workout strategies for sustainable use of natural resources.
Dr. Manoj Kumar, Chairman 22nd Punjab Science Congress stated that Conference will have five tracks namely Agricultural Sciences and Food and Sugar Technologies; Bioscience, Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology; Pure and Applied Chemistry, Pure and Applied Physics, Mathematical Sciences and nanotechnology; Medical, Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences; All Branches of Engineering and Technology including Textile Technology and Computational Sciences. He also highlighted that this year the Congress will be different from the previous ones as the focus will be on encouraging innovation at the level of products, ideas and services. He also shared that carrying forward the tradition, the Young Scientist Award will be conferred upon a budding scientist or technocrat to encourage him/her carry on with the original research work. He highlighted the fact that Punjab Science Congress has always garnered huge response from Academia and Industry alike and showed his confidence that the Conference will go a long way in achieving scientific and technological breakthroughs to serve the society better.
The joint meeting was attended by Executive Committee members namely Prof. A.S Ahluwalia, President, Prof. T.S Thind, Vice President, Prof. N.R. Dhamiwal, Secretary, Prof. J.I.S. Khattar, Joint Seretary, Punjab Academy of Sciences, Patiala. In addition to these, the executive members of PAS namely, Professor Tarlok Singh, Prof. Jagtar Singh, Prof. Paramvir Singh, Prof. Rajan Gaur, Prof. S.S Hundal, Prof. Manoj Kumar and Prof. Kamlesh Guleria, also attended the meeting. Chief Editor Prof. Harish Chopra, Ex-Officio Member Prof. I.J.S. Bansal and Special Invitee Prof. G.S Gosal along with Organizing Committee members Dr. Sudhir Sharma, Organizing Secretary, Dr. Vinay Chopra Convenor, Dr. Neeru Malhotra and Mr. Ramandeep Singh Johal, Co-convenors of the Congress also joined in the deliberations of the meeting.
