JFA expresses grief at Pankaj Barua’s demise
Guwahati: Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) expresses profound grief at The untimely demise of Pankaj Barua, a dedicated journalist turned documentary filmmaker, on Sunday (30 June 2019) in the city. Son of the acclaimed Assamese filmmaker Padum Barua (Gonga Chilonir Pakhi fame), Pankaj started his career as a professional journalist and fought for legal dues to the scribes. Later, he shifted to filmmaking and till his demise, Pankaj was working for a documentary on Auniati Satra of Majuli islands. Pankaj, 55, was suffering from diabetes for some years and faced a medical emergency last week. A person with a good sense of humour, Pankaj has left behind his wife with three young children. The youngest daughter is only two years old, where as his son is in class 6th standard. JFA urges the government and also the State film fraternity to stand with the bereaved family members and extend all possible supports to them at the time of crisis.
