Jalandhar, September 8, 2013: Diarrhea and Cholera have spread in Garha and adjoining areas. As a result, many people are suffering from these ailments.
The Garha rwsidents, on being contact, expressed great displeasure over the functioning of Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar. They said the water pipes laid years ago have completed its age and got rusted. They sought that the damaged water pipes be replaced immediately.
Most of the people were satisfied with the rescue operations being carried out by the officials of the Department of Health, Punjab, in providing medicines and medical assistance to the ailing people.
BJP leader and former municipal councillor of the area SD Chugh people themselves are also responsible for the present crisis as many people have connected water and sewerage connections with underground pipes on their own. He said a few deaths in the area due to diarrhea are unfortunate. Another BJP leader Pawan Malhan demanded that the state government should release funds to replace the defective drinking water pipes on war footing.
MEANWHILE, another report sent by SK Vyas from Jalandhar says there is a pall of gloom in Garha locality as the disease has claimed two more deaths of a 2 year old child and Santo Devi (90) for the past four days. According to the health department, 90 patients are suffering from diarrhea in the district out of them as many as 10 persons are admitted in Civil Hospital.
After the death of four persons in the area Sunil Jyoti, Mayor, Jalandhar, K.D.Bhandari, Civil Surgeon Dr R.L.Bassan alongwith others, visited the affected areas. The authorities said they have plans to sort out the leakage of sewerage connections. The authorities have stopped the drinking water supply of the area for quite sometimes. Efforts are on to check illegal water supply connections. Dr R.L.Bassan, Civil Surgeon said tablets to the inhabitants had been distributed.
