JAC office-bearers submit memorandum to Rakhra

Jalandhar, December 25, 2014: A delegation of the office bearers of the Joint Action/ Coordination Committee of Principal Federation, Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers’ Union and Punjab and Chandigarh College Non-Teaching Employees Union of three universities met today Surjit Singh Rakhra, Minister of Higher Education, Punjab at Patiala to discuss the problems of teaching, non-teaching staff , principals and issues of pending salary grants and also gave him a memorandum of their demands.
Rakhra gave a 40 minute patient and positive hearing to the delegation comprising Principal Dr BB Sharma, President, Dr Naresh Kumar Dhiman- Vice President , Dr Sarita Verma- Secretary, Dr JS Sidhu, Dr Kuldeep Singh-PCCTU-President , Dr Jagwant Singh, Madan Lal Khullar- PCNTEU-President and Ajay Gupta and others. Higher Education Minister Surjit Singh Rakhra assured the JAC delegation to arrange a meeting with Secretary Higher education and concerned staff with JAC at Chandigarh in his presence to solve all the pending issues in the first week of January 2015 and if need be he also assured to arrange a meeting with chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and office bearers of JAC in the last week of January 2015 to solve all the pending issues of teaching, non teaching staff and principals including regularisation and immediate release of the up-to-date salary grants and restoration of House Rent Allowance (HRA) and Medical Allowance(MA).
Meanwhile the office bearers of JAC thanked Rakhra for his cordiality but at the same time restated their commitment to their already chalked out plan of action as stated in the Chandigarh press conference of 22 December 2014 viz:
I) To start an awareness campaign amongst the students and society against the anti higher education bias of the Punjab Government by publishing banners to aware the students regarding the dangers of becoming the higher education more costly if the present policies continue.
II) To hold a massive rally on January 9, 2015 in Patiala the home town of Higher Education Minister. The second rally will be held on January 20 at Ludhiana.
III) To hold JAC state-level rally on January 29 at Chandigarh or Jalandhar.
