INTERNATIONAL WOMEN DAY celebrated by LIC Ludhiana Division Office

International Women Day celebrations being held in the premises of LIC of India, Ludhiana Division on Monday.

Ludhiana, March 11, 2013: Under the banner of Northern Zone Insurance Employees’ Association (NZIEA) and leadership of Ritu Abaan, Convener, Women Sub Committee and Manjit Kaur Khanna, Co-convener international women day was celebrated in the premises of LIC of India, Ludhiana Division on Monday.

This meeting was attended by women employees from all local nine units including Divisional Office. Narrating the historical background of the day, Ritu Abaan thanked the All India Insurance Employees’ Association (AIIEA) for motivating, encouraging women employees to take up leading role in the organisational activities. She said that rise of a handful of women to the position of power and prestige should not be taken to be the yardstick of women development, still women are fighting for their social, political and economic rights.

She said they are struggling against social discrimination, negligence and evil practices like female foeticide, dowry system, bride killing etc. She also said that global recession has hit the women hardest as they have also to fight against the job cuts, wage inequalities etc. She urged the women to join the struggle of other section of working class.

Manjit Kaur Khanna, Co-convener also addressed the meeting and condemned the Delhi gang rape case as well as Tarn Taran case. She criticised the behavior of Punjab Police and demanded justice for the woman concerned.

The proceedings of the meeting were conducted by Mona Aggarwal, Branch President, Career Agent Branch, Ludhiana .

 A fun game was also conducted by the ladies in the premises of Divisional Office of LIC.

Amarjit Singh, Divisional Secretary greeted the women comrades and said that the neo-liberal policies cannot be fight unless women comrades come forward to shoulder the responsibilities in the organisation. He cautioned them to be more vigilant to meet the challenges ahead.

Vikas Aggarwal, Manager (Personal and Industrial Relation) on behalf of Senior Divisional Manager, Rajendra Kumar  also greeted them on this occasion.
