Jalandhar, March 25, 2016: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar organises an International Convention on Youth Concerns & Challenges ICYC-16 Academicians, intellectuals and luminaries from 11 different countries across the globe are participating in the convention. There are experts from USA, Hungary, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, UAE, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Rwanda and Zambia. They will be interacting with Indians from 21 different states across the nation. The inaugural session began with the chanting of Vande Matram and Vedic hymns after which the ritual lamp of knowledge was lit by the dignitaries. The dignitaries gracing the dias were then given a warm floral welcome. Speaking first about the convention and then about KMV in the inaugural address Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi said that the institution has been involved in empowering women and the Convention was a signature event to mark 130 glorious years of forging new pathways in the field of education and empowerment of women. The college has always been aspiring towards excellence in its endeavour to make the dormant potential of youth dominant. The inaugural address was followed by a vibrant, vivacious key-note address by Prof. John Battaglino, Dean of Students, Boston University, Boston, U.S.A, Prof. John said that working for youth and studying them was the mission and passion of his life. He comes from a university where more than thirty five thousand young people study and a city where youth from across the globe come to study every year. The challenges faced by youth were like armed conflict, global climate changes, drug abuse racial discrimination to name a few. Dr. R.K. Mahajan, Dean, College Development Council, GNDU, Amritsar, the Chief Guest also talked about the challenges and concerns faced by the youth. Observing that India had grown by leaps and bounds after independence, he observed that skill development programmes should be dominant in the academic curriculum to provide employment. The Guest of Honour Prof. Yasushi Watanbe from Keio University, Japan observed that youth were the greatest potential of our society and it is important to focus on their needs. The presidential address by Mr. Alok Sondhi, General Secretary, Arya Shiksha Mandal was lauded by all. He observed that preparedness; and being straight could help the youth face many challenges. The inaugural session ended with a vote of thanks by the convenors Dr. Madhumeet and Dr. Deepika Anand.
The first plenary session was chaired by Prof. Koh Kheng Lian, Faculty of
Law, National University of Singapore. During the session the first talk was presented by Dr. Marta Fulop, Professor Hungarian Academy of Science, Hungary on Threats and Challenges and its significance in youth. The second speaker for the session was Prof. Yasushi Watanbe, Keio University, Japan who spoke on “The Politics of Identity in the Age of Globalization”. He spoke about how to give decent standard of life to the youth, to promote world happiness and peace. The third final speaker for the session was Prof. Maj. (Gen.) G.G. Dwivedi, Dean International Studies, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. Prof. G.G. Dwivedi talked about “Unleashing Potential: Prelude to A Great Career” Observing that it was better to walk in the right direction than to fly in the wrong one, it was important for youth to channelize their energy in the right direction at the right speed in order to achieve what they dream of. His talk was very motivating and inspiring for the youth. More than a hundred and fifty papers will be presented in parallel sessions at 7 different venues on the college campus itself. The whole campus was abuzz with intellectual activities throughout the best part of the day. A cultural evening by the students, intended to give the visiting dignitaries a glance at the rich, ancient and ever growing cultural heritage of India will be organised in the evening. The cultural eve’s attendance includes noted local eminent citizens i.e. Sh. Manoranjan Kalia, MLA & Former Minister (Punjab), Mr. Sunil Jyoti, Mayor, Jalandhar and Mr. Yurinder Singh Hayer, commissioner of Police Jalandhar
