International Conference on English Studies Across and Beyond Borders Commences at KMV
25 Foreign Scholars from 14 Different Countries Across the Globe Participates in the Conference Jalandhar, March 6, 2019: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar has organised a Three- Day International Conference on “English Studies Across and Beyond Borders” (ICES-2019). It is noteworthy that 25 foreign scholars from 14 different countries across the globe graced the institution along with the delegates and paper presenters from 20 states of India. KMV fraternity is organising the conference in collaboration with ESBB(English Scholars Beyond Borders), a not for profit organisation of international scholars. Distinguished luminaries from leading universities of USA, UK, Japan, Canada, South Africa, Serbia, Scotland, Oman, UAE, Taiwan, Afghanistan, India, Tunisia and Hungary have graced the occasion. The first day of the conference commenced with the ritual lighting of the lamp and Saraswati Vandana. Principal Prof.(Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi was the first to grace the dais for the inaugural session. She apprised the foreign dignitaries with the activities which kept the campus alive with the continuous progress of the students. After the inaugural address, the Presidential remarks were given by Sh. Chander Mohan, President, Arya Shiksha Mandal who was the Presiding Dignitary. After that, a souvenir ICES-19 was also released along with the book form of the presentations made during the Foundation programme. The Keynote address was delivered by Prof. Roger Nunn, Head, Department of writing studies, American University, Sharjah, UAE. He spoke on Plagiarism and concluded his talk with the observation that we should make students Users of knowledge rather than Consumers of knowledge. Prof. John Unger, Georgia Gwinnet College USA was the chief guest on the occasion. He spoke on the relevance of English language in today’s world and apprised the students that how the language can be mastered in order to excel in today’s scenario. Prof. Z.N. Patil (Guest of Honour) spoke about how to teach students to form questions and to encourage critical thinking . Mr. Alok Sondhi, General Secretary, KMV Managing committee gave the Vote of Thanks and thanked them for making such a wonderful event see the light of the day. Mrs Seema Jain, Head, PG Dept. of English, KMV gave the Convener's remarks. The first session of the day was chaired by Prof. Theron Muller, Associate Professor, University of Toyoma, Japan, Prof. Z.N.Patil, English & Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad and Prof. John Unger, Georgia Gwinnet College, Georgia, USA. The second session was chaired by Prof. Roger Nunn during Prof. Shivakumar Sivasubramaniam, University of Western Cape, South Africa and Prof.(Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi, Principal KMV Jalandhar gave the invited talks. Post lunch it was the first session of Paper presentation at five different venues where Prof. John Unger, Prof. Vijay Singh Thakur, Prof. Suresh Seth, Dr Paramjit Jassal and Mrs Seema Jain chaired the sessions. The day’s activities will culminate with a Cultural Extravaganza in the evening. A Gala Evening-cum-Dinner will be a befitting attempt to give a peep to all present into our rich cultural legacy. Mr Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar, Mr Jagdish Raj Raja, Mayor, Jalandhar and many other dignitaries will be the honoured Guests for the cultural extravaganza. Other luminous citizens of Jalandhar and academicians will also be present on the occasion. Prof.(Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi congratulated the conveners Mrs Seema Jain and Dr Madhumeet and the whole organizing team for the successful culmination of the day's proceedings.
