International Childhood Cancer Day observed

Ludhiana, February 15, 2018: International Childhood Cancer Day was observed today by Department of Pediatrics, by organizing an awareness walk in Rose Garden in the early morning. The walk was well attended by people from all walks of life, members of DMC Youth Club and also members of NGO named Leukemia Crusaders.

According to Dr Shruti Kakkar (In-charge, Thalassemia Unit) February 15 is marked as International Childhood Cancer Day every year. The purpose of observing this day is to create awareness among the general public to identify the symptoms of this diseases in early stage and treat it accordingly. According to recently-published reports, the reported worldwide incidence of childhood cancer is increasing every year both in developed and developing countries. The theme of International Childhood Cancer Day,this year is “Advance Cure and Transform Care”

A role-play was also held in Pediatrics OPD Block of the hospital, where students of College of Nursing made the people aware of important aspects of Childhood Cancer. The role play was well appreciated by dignitaries present there including Principal Dr Sandeep Puri, Medical Supdt Dr Sandeep Sharma, Dr Puneet Aulakh Pooni (Prof & Head of Pediatrics) and other faculty members.

Dr Shruti Kakkar also addressed the students of College of Nursing to choose Pediatric Oncology as a part of their stream in Nursing profession.

Secretary of DMCH Managing Society-Sh Prem Kumar Gupta shared that DMCH is taking every possible effort to provide affordable treatment to patients of childhood cancer at absolutely affordable rates.
