International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness recognizes Dr Kaushik Murali as Eye Health Hero
Bangalore, October 17, 2018: The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) has recognized and awarded Dr Kaushik Murali from Sankara Eye Foundation India as Eye Health Hero 2018. Blindness remains a major public health problem across the world. The Eye Health Heroes initiative recognizes and celebrates frontline staff whose work in the field and engagement with the community makes a real difference in restoring sight. Dr Kaushik Murali, Paediatric Ophthalmologist & President, Sankara Eye Foundation India Said, “The award is in recognition of our work at Sankara Eye Foundation India where we have used innovations and collaborated to arrive at effective solutions to ensure best eye care to all fellow Indians.” The eye health heroes hailed from countries as far as Gambia, Paraguay, Mexico, India, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Australia. They received their awards to standing ovations and cheers from the eye health community. The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) was established in 1975 as a coordinating, umbrella organisation to lead international efforts in blindness prevention activities. It is a consortium of prominent eye non-governmental agencies from across the world and the World Health Organisation.
