Chandigarh, November 17, 2016: Interdisciplinary Centre for Swami Vivekananda Studies, Panjab University (PU) today organised two lectures on Yoga and Meditation at Guru Tegh Bahadur Bhawan.
Noted clinical psychologist and meditation teacher Dr. Sid Jordan delivered lecture on Biopsychology and Yoga Sadhana. Acharya Vishvamitra Dr. Sid Jordan has combined a career as a licensed clinical psychologist and meditation teacher since 1971. As a clinical psychologist, he taught individual, group and family psychotherapy, meditation, yoga and community psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at the Medical University of South Carolina (USA) from 1969-93. Dr.Sid Jordan informed the students about biopsychology of chakra system which provides a systematic approach to transferring human qualities of the mind and motions from crudest expression to the subtlest Supreme Consciousness. He also spoke about Yoga is not just exercise it develops body, mind and spirit. A clear understanding of yoga asana helps us understand how to develop mental clarity and a sense of belonging in the body which is a spiritual vehicle. He concluded Yoger is equal to merger with the divine. Second lecture was on Neohumanism, Education and Spirituality by Dr. Marcus Bussey.
Senior Lecturer of History and Futures in University of Sunshine Coast, Australia Dr Marcus Bussey delivered second lecture. Dr Marcus Bussey is a futurist
and educator with a keen interest in intercultural encounter. He teaches courses in world history and sustainable futures at the University of the Sunshine Coast. He described Neohumanism as a new vision of human potential in which the physical, the mental and the spiritual support each another. Education in this light must cater to all three areas. Teachers are not information managers but guide to a rich human future.
The lectures were followed by an interactive session. Prof. Nandita, Coordinator, Interdisciplinary Centre for Swami Vivekananda Studies made concluding
remarks for the event and also token of thanks to the resource persons.
