Chandigarh, February 16, 2018: University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh organized an interactive session with students on higher education in US by Mr.Stewart Davis, Director of Programs, US Embassy North India Office, here today. In his address, he said that US is familiar and safe destination for students and more and more students are opting to study in US.
Mr.Stewart informed the gathering of over 60 students about the types of institutions in the U.S. and that according to the 2017 Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange data released by IIE and the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs : The number of Indian students in the United States has, risen to a record level, to over 186,000 the fourth year in a row to see double-digit growth. This is an increase of 21,000 over 2016 and a growth of 12%,
one of the highest rates of growth in the world. Further, the number of Indian students in the U.S. has doubled over the last 10 years and India is the second leading place of origin for students coming to the U.S., comprising 17.3% of all international
students. The majority of Indian students (56%) in the U.S. are studying at the graduate level.
Mr. Davis also informed the students about the 5 steps to U.S. study which are research your options, finance your studies, complete your application, apply for your student visa and prepare for your departure.
Mr. Stewart made the students aware about the opportunities available in US and apprised them about the scholarships and good law schools, good law school on media law and the job prospects for Indians. He informed that there is no change in US Visa
policy for India and it may get better for certain sections.
