Ludhiana, October 26, 2018: An Interactive workshop on sensitizing the students, to the Judicious use of mobiles and smart screens was recently conducted by the department of Ophthalmology, DMCH at BCM School Shashtri Nagar, Ludhiana The workshop was attended by more than 200 students. In the workshop Dr Priyanka Arora (Pediatrics Ophthalmologist and squint specialist) addressed the students over the pros and cons of using smartscreens. Dr Priyanka said that children these days, are spending more time on smart phone rather than playing outdoors. This has resulted in dramatic rise in the incidence of refractive error, visual stress and also cervical spine problems due to wrong posture among the children. The children were explained about the impact of smartscreens on their memory, personality development, emotional stability and physical health. They were given tips on how to break free from mobile addiction. Sh. Prem Kumar Gupta, Secretary DMCH Managing society lauded the efforts of the department and said that the use of mobile phones is increasing alarmingly among children and awareness programmes like this are the need of the hour. He also stated that DMCH is always keen on conducting such awareness programmes to help the society.
