Chandigarh, April 7, 2016: The police force has onerous and important responsibility of maintaining law and order and protecting the life, liberty and property of our people.
Expressing these views, while presiding over high level Law and order meeting here today, the Governor of Punjab, Haryana and Administration, UT, Chandigarh, Prof.Kaptan Singh Solanki said that our Chandigarh Police force has the capacity and capability of serving, the public interests, but still they should require upgrading their professional skills continuously through high quality of training and education.
The Administrator further said to bridge the gap between the police and the citizens and to achieve the objectives more efficiently and effectively, dedicated beat officers should be identified & professional training should be imparted to them for the maintenance of public tranquility, law and order, the protection of the individuals fundamental rights and to provide assistance and better services to the public to reduce fear, of anti social elements. He said that the participation between the police and the public would certainly help in reducing crime level, detecting crimes and forge a partnership between them in the area of security.
Prof. Solanki called upon the police officers of all ranks to discharge their professional duties committedly and devotedly to win the trust and confidence of the people to build a healthy society. He said public handling skills must continue to evolve alongwith your professional skills. He said that the police force must have its specialized units for effective traffic management, mob control, neutralizing terrorists and other hardcore criminals to avoid inconvenience to general public and to win the confidence.
Congratulating Chandigarh Police for performing excellent duty, Mr. Solanki said that it becomes imperative to change the public perception of police and it was possible only by instilling the sense of security amongst the citizens. He said there cannot be any sustained development unless peace and order are guaranteed.
Earlier Mr. Tejinder Luthra, IGP Chandigarh gave brief report regarding the working and achievements of the Police department. He apprised the Administrator that during the year 2015 the department has received total 17430 number of complaints out of which 15803 complaints has been disposed off. Similarly he said that during the year 5113 FIRs has been registered whereas during the current year 2016 till date we registered 1199 FIRs.
Counting the achievements of the department he said all the murder and attempt to murder cases have been worked out. He said the Chandigarh Traffic Police has adopted a strategy of four Es that is Enforcement, Education, Engineering changes and Emergency care training to ensure road safety.

Singh, Principal Secretary to Governor, Mr. Sarvjit Singh, Finance Secretary, Inspector General of Police Mr Tejinder Singh Luthra, Mr Anurag Agarwal Home Secretary, Mr A S Cheema DIG,Mr Ajit Bala Ji Joshi Deputy Commissioner UT Chandigarh, Mr Sukhchain Singh SSP, and Mr Maneesh Choudhry SSP Traffic.
