Infosys Drives Environment Sustainability Efforts at its Bangalore Campus

Bangalore, June 24, 2016: Infosys, in its recently launched Sustainability Report, stated the company launched a new biogas plant at its Bangalore campus, to treat food waste onsite and use the biogas generated from the plant, for cooking in the food courts.

The new plant, with an optimized design and detailed engineering, has a capacity of treating two tonnes of food waste per day. It is fully automated and integrated with the building management system to facilitate online monitoring on an ongoing basis. In addition to this, the company also installed a composting plant with a capacity of 2.5 TPD in the campus.

Infosys has undertaken various initiatives on waste management to significantly contribute in reducing the greenhouse gas emissions. Currently, the company has 9.25 TPD installed capacity of biogas plants across its campuses in the country, and aims to install more biogas plants and organic waste converters to ensure onsite recycle and reuse of the food waste.

Additionally, one of the buildings in its Bangalore campus was awarded the LEED India Platinum rating, taking the total number of green buildings to 14. The smart buildings across 11 Infosys campuses in India are connected to the Central Command Center, a central monitoring station in Bangalore. The Command Center monitors 138 buildings online, which covers about 45 million sq. ft. of built-up area across different campuses.

The company unveiled the Infosys Sustainability Report 2015-16 as per the Global Reporting Initiative G4 guidelines, its ninth year of reporting on sustainability disclosures,

The company’s concentrated efforts in meeting its entire electricity requirements from renewables has resulted in the installation of 9.7 MW of solar PV across campuses with Bangalore contributing to 1055 (kW) of installed capacity. In fiscal 2015-2016, Infosys also completed the implementation of one of its most efficient data centers in Bangalore, with a design Power usage effectiveness (PUE) of 1.08, using passive cooling technology.
