Indian Shooters Shine At World University Championship

Chandigarh, September 19, 2016: Indian University Shooters have won five Gold Medals, one Silver Medal and two Bronze Medals in the World University Championship held at Bydgoszcz, Poland. The Championship was organised by Poland from September 14 to 18 and concluded yesterday evening.

The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) had entrusted the responsibility of conducting the selection trials, Coaching Camp and sending the Indian Universities team for World University Championship in the game of Shooting (Men & Women) to Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh. It may be recalled that PU had won the All India Inter University Shooting Championship for year 2015-16.

As many as 34 shooters represented India in the World Shooting Championship. Out of these 9 Shooters are studying in PU campus and its affiliated colleges. PU student Vinita Bhardwaj and Delhi University student Akhil Sheoran won one each individual Gold Medals in Air Rifle Women Individual and  Air Rifle Men Individual events. Another PU student Anjum Moudgil won the Individual Silver medal in 50 Mtrs. Rifle 3 Position Women Individual. Bhavesh Shekhawat of Manav Rachna International University Faridabad won the individual Bronze Medal in 25 Mtrs. Standard Pistol Individual.

Indian Universities Shooting team won three Gold Medals in team events of 25 Mtrs. Standard Pistol, Air Rifle Men and Air Rifle Women. The Indian Universities Trap Men Team won Bronze Medal in the championship.

PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Arun Kumar Grover has congratulated the Medal Winners and all the participants of the team, Coach, Manager & Director PU Sports Dr. Parminder Singh Ahluwalia and the staff for the achievement.
