Indian Doctors for Peace and Development (IDPD) demands, public spending on health be increased

Ludhiana, July 3, 2019:Indian Doctors for Peace and Development (IDPD) has demanded that the public spending on health should be increased from the present to 5% in the budget to be presented on 5th July so as to ensure minimum basic healthcare to all. The Rural hospitals should be upgraded and their number increased. Doctors and paramedical staffs in rural areas should be give incentives and proper facilities to utilize their skills. The district level hospitals should be modernized. The ESI scheme should be strengthened. Number of ESI hospitals should be doubled from the present of 1500 to 3000 and the model hospitals from present of 44 to 100 so as to ensure proper health facilities to the workers. The model hospital should be modernized.
In the statement issued by Dr S S Soodan – President IDPD, Dr Shakeel Ur Rahman – General Secretary IDPD and Dr Arun Mitra – Senior Vice president demanded that the drug prices should be streamlined and made affordable. The public sector pharmaceutical units be strengthened. Medical colleges should be opened in the government sector only.
