India’s first and only state level Sailing Regatta in its 3rd edition kicks off
Hyderabad, July 9, 2018: India’s first and only State level Sailing Regatta in its 3rd edition kicks off with a bang today. The three day competition goes on till 11th July received 130 entries from all across India and multiple states. Land Locked hosts, Telangana has the maximum entries with 60 young sailors from across 15 districts to participate. The Organising Authority Telangana Sailing Association is buzzing with activity to manage the overload of entries This is the 10th year of the Deloitte Monsoon Regatta and the 3rd year of the Telangana State Regatta both being run back to back with a focus on the Junior and Sub Junior fleets The 10th year of Monsoon Regatta will be held from July 12 to 15. The State Regatta has been declared as ‘Open” allowing for entries from across the country and the cream of the Indian fleet will be on the waters of Hussain Sagar competing for the multiple trophies across the Sub Junior to Senior classes. In the Sub Junior Class the top contenders are from Madhya Pradesh, Tamilnadu and Telangana with National Champions Uma Chauhan from MP and Anirudh from Tamilnadu and Mahboobee from Telangana being the top seeds In the Junior Laser Class local lad Gautam Kankatla who won the event last year is a force to reckon with Rishab Nayar of Telangana has upgraded to the Youth Radial Class after winning the Nationals in the Junior Class yesterday and hopes to win the Youth Trophy ‘I hope to crack the Telangana State Regatta once again this year and thereafter the Nationals in December if my school in Chicago allows for it. I always look forward to the heavy weather adrenaline rush at Hussain Sagar and of course the opportunity to sail with the best in India is always a good challenge.” said Rishab looking confident.
