Ludhiana, July 12, 2018: Additional Commissioner Income Tax Delhi Mr R K Gupta today said that to keep a check on any person buying any kind of Benami properties, the Income Tax Department and District Administration would work in tandem. He said that if the Revenue Department comes to know about any kind of Benami properties, they would bring it to the notice of the Income Tax department, after which the property in question would be confiscated.

Mr R K Gupta said this while addressing a seminar organised on the topic “The Prohibition of Benami Property Transactions Act 1988” at Bachat Bhawan, here today. This seminar was organised by the Directorate of Income Tax (Investigation), Benami Prohibition Unit-2, Ludhiana, in which Mr R K Gupta was the key speaker while Deputy Commissioner Mr Pardeep Kumar Aggarwal was the guest of honour.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included Additional Commissioner Income Tax Dr Rajinder Kaur, Deputy Commissioner Income Tax Mr Rajeev Wadhera, ADC Jagraon Mrs Neeru Katyal, SDM’s besides several others.

While addressing the seminar, Mr Gupta said that the Income Tax department alone cannot find out details of Benami properties. That is why, the Revenue Department and Income Tax Department can join hands and keep a check on all Benami properties, that would lead to the success of Operation Clean Money of the Union government. He said that to find out whether any property is benami or not, only the Revenue department can find it out at the initial stage. And if any such matter comes for registration with the Revenue Department, they would bring it to the notice of the Income Tax department and further action as per the act would be taken. Mr Gupta clarified that even though some other agency such as Enforcement Directorate or others might take action against the culprits, but the Revenue Department would still inform the Income Tax department.

Mr Gupta informed that when any property is found to be benami, then the Union government can confiscate it and the culprits can be fined separately for the same. He stated that it is a punishable and non bailable crime and all parties would face the brunt of law. He appealed to the Revenue Department officials to bring maximum number of such cases to their notice.

On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Mr Pardeep Kumar Aggarwal assured the Income Tax department that the Revenue officials would assist them in all possible manner.
