A two-day National Conference on Mechanical Engineering being inaugurated at PU S.S.G. Regional Centre Hoshiarpur by Dr. Satya Prakash, Prof. Emeritus, IIT Roorkee by lighting the lamp. 

Jalandhar/Hoshiapur, November 7, 2014: A two day National Conference on Mechanical Engineering was inaugurated at Panjab University S.S.G. Regional Centre Hoshiarpur by Dr. Satya Prakash, Prof. Emeritus, IIT Roorkee by lighting the lamp. The ceremony was presided over by Dr.Madhu Raka Advisor & Secretary to Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The Objective of conference is to bring researchers and experts from academia and industry on a common platform to discuss, share and create awareness about the latest technologies adopted in the Field of Mechanical Engineering. In the beginning Director H.S. Bains introduced the campus to the experts and delegates and other dignitaries present.  He talked about the inception of the campus, academics in the campus, faculty of the campus and other facilities available in the campus. He emphasized on the need of research for the benefit of the Indian society. Dr. Manu Dogra organizing secretary of the conference gave details of the conference.  After that , Proceedings of the conference was released.  
Dr. Madhu Raka in her speech emphasized the need of organizing such conferences to enhance our knowledge about the latest developments in different research areas in the world. 
Dr. Satya Prakash delivered an inaugural lecture on “Nano Technology and its Applications”. In his lecture he explained Nano-Technology in very simple words and discussed its applications in the field of medicine, materials, heat transfer and prevention of corrosion etc. He further discussed how nanotechnology can be helpful in treating cancer, removal of blockage in the arteries, building light weight and high strength materials and producing more efficient solar cells. He advised the researchers and students to work in new areas of research in which very less work has been done to keep pace with the fast changing world.

In  plenary session of first day, experts delivered lectures on various fields of Mechanical Engineering. Dr. A K Manna, Prof. & Head, PEC University, Chandigarh, delivered a lecture on “Micro and Hybrid Machining”. He explained in detail the various aspects of micro and hybrid machining. 
Dr. Rajesh Kumar Prof Mechanical, SLIET Longowal delivered a lecture on “Diagnosis of faults in rotating elements through vibration signals”.  He discussed how vibration signals can be used to diagnose a fault in the rotating elements. 
Dr. Buta Singh Dean Academics, PTU, Jalandhar delivered a lecture on “Investigation of In-Vitro corrosion behavior of plasma sprayed Hyroxyapatite and Hyroxyapatite – calcium phosphate coatings”.  He discussed the use of plasma sprayed Hyroxyapatite and Hyroxyapatite – calcium phosphate coatings on different materials. Session was chaired by Dr. Satya Prakash.
In the post lunch session, 25 delegates presented their research papers. Session was chaired by Dr. A.K. Manna. 
In the evening, delegates and dignitaries enjoyed cultural programme performed by students of PUSSGRC, Hoshiarpur. 
 At this occasion , all the faculty and staff members of of UIET , DCSA and UILS were present.
