IIT wins Complex Innovation Category during Smart India Hackathon at CGC Landran
Smart India Hackathon Bestowed Innovation and Creativity Chandigarh, March 4, 2019: The innovative young minds have managed to resolve all the 334 Software problem statements identified by 17 Ministeries/Departments and 95 Industries during Smart India Hackathon 2019. The nodal centre, CGC Landran paid host to 29 teams across India and facilitated the technology-driven nation-wide event. All the 7 problem statements in complex, complicated and simple category were solved by the participants at CGC Landran. Team ‘Beginners Luck Strikes’ from IIT-Tirupati won the numero uno spot in the complex category for creating 'App based Valuation Reports of Mobile Assets'. Their Team leader, Gowtham Senthil said, “Our mobile application will automatize the inspection process by eliminating hard copies of the valuation reports.” In the complicated category, Team ‘Dexterous Squad’ from B.P Poddar Institute of Management & Technology, Kolkatta devised a lightning alert system for farmers to save their lives and was adjudged 1st position. Team 'Heisenbug 404', from Pimpri Chinchwad college of Engineering, Maharashtra, took away the prize for creating 'Smart and Dynamic Timetable Management System' in the simple category. Dr. Mohit Gambhir, Director Innovation, MHRD’s Innovation cell visited the CGC Landran campus to encourage the youth for their outstanding contribution to the field of Innovaton and Research. The valedictory ceremony saw Mr Amarprit Singh Jaspal, Sr. Technical Manager from Persistent Systems who gave away the cash prizes and Memento’s to the winners. Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman CGC and S.Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President CGC appreciated the enormous participation of technical minds and nation-wide initiative of Government to foster problem-solving approach amongst students. REPORT ON DAY-2 Innovative Solutions during Smart India Hackathon-2019 at CGC Landran; Lightning Alert System developed to save lives of Farmers Taking the lives of around 2,000 people every year since 2005, lightning strikes have become one of the major causes for rising death toll in India. In an attempt to solve the pressing problem faced by the farmer community, participants at Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon-2019 have devised a ‘Lightning Alert System’ within 36-hour non-stop competition ongoing at CGC Landran. While briefing about the lightning alert system, Team named ‘Domination’ from Lakshmi Narain College of Technology & Science, Madhya Pradesh said, “We have used a US-based lightning detector for our innovation which can detect Ultraviolet, Infrared and Visible rays within a radius of 40 Km. Before a high intensity ray strikes it, a signal in the form of Buzzer, LCD, Text and voice message can be received at the farmer’s end and they can evacuate the place well in advance.” Team members Ariba Mev,Nandini, Vivek,Neelam, Prashant and Himanshu completed the python coding within 6 hours and used IoT (Internet of Things) technology for their competitive project. Their innovation has been appreciated by the panel of 12 technical judges from the industry at CGC Landran who pushed them further to update it with a GPS module and a possibility to add data from multiple locations. All the 29 Teams at the nodal centre, CGC Landran were addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conference yesterday. He said, “India has become world's third largest start-up nation because of the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among the youth”. He appreciated and congratulated the students for coming up with technology-driven solutions for problems revolving around Agriculture & Rural development, women & child safety, hyper-local problems of vendors, MSME collaborations and time management. REPORT ON DAY-1 Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon Kicks off at CGC Landran “India is soon to become the owner of Innovation rather than a contributor” Prakash Javadekar Light Alert System for Farmers being developed during Smart India Hackathon-2019 The 3rd edition of world’s biggest open Hackathon kicks off at 48 nodal centres across India with the participation of over 2 lakh students. 29 teams comprising around 300 technology savvy students from IIT, Tirupati, NIT- Kurukshetra, Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology- Delhi, Coimbatore Institute of Technology and others have begun coding non-stop for 36-hours at CGC Landran. The 2-day Hackathon is going to address 334 Problem statements put forward by 150 Industries & MSME’s and 17 Ministries & Departments. Participants at CGC Landran are working on Problems revolving around developing software for Agriculture & Rural development, MSME collaborations, time management and assessment platform for students. The event was inaugurated by Dr. R.K Soni, Director NWRO- AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). While addressing the participants through video conference, HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar said, “Only those countries prosper who innovate and India being a 'Soft' power as well a hub for IT professionals is soon to become the owner of Innovation rather than a contributor”. Dr. Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, AICTE said that the initiative of Ministry of HRD, AICTE and other private organisations contribute in building New India which requires digitally sound workforce as what we innovate today will lead to the future of the country. Roshan Bhatt, Team leader and Participant at Smart India Hackathon 2019 said “Our Team, Backspace is working on ‘lightning Alert System for Farmers’ which will give advance lightning information through mobile based application and satellite communication and thus will help in saving the lives of farmers”. They are working on the problem statement given by Central Tool Room & Training Centre (CTTC), Bhubaneswar. Three categories of problems namely complex, complicated and simple have been designated to 1300 teams across India who will be competing for 36-hours at a stretch. A panel of 12 Technical Judges from the industry will be judging the skills of the participant teams and Prizes worth 2.5 crore will be awarded to the winners on the final day of the event which is, 3rd March 2019.
