IIM Kozhikode hosts PMI India’s 5th Project Management Research & Academic Conference 2019

Mumbai, March 8, 2019: The Project Management Research & Academic Conference (RAC) was a three-day professional development event and the fifth in the series of Research & Academic Conferences conducted by Project Management Institute (PMI) India biennially since 2011. This year the event was hosted by Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kozhikode and focused on the theme, 'Project management in the emerging world of disruption’. The event was co-hosted by Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management Kerala (IITMK), Trivandrum. PMI is the world's leading not-for-profit professional membership association for project management. The three-day event for project management academicians and students was held between 28th February to 2nd March, 2019. PMI India also presented awards and commemorated noted academicians during the conference for their extraordinary contribution in the field of project management education and research. The award categories and winners include: § PMI India Distinguished Fellow Award - Award Value (Rs) 5 lakhs Dr. Karuna Jain – Director, National Institute of Industrial Engineering, Mumbai § PMI India Emerging Scholar Award 2018-19 - Award Value proposed (Rs) 2 lakhs Dr. Nilesh Agarchand Patil - Assistant Professor in the School of Construction Management, National Institute of Construction Management and Research (NICMAR), Pune Dr. Milind Jagtap - Associate Professor and Head (Project Engineering & Management), National Institute of Construction Management and Research (NICMAR), Pune RAC is an opportunity for academicians and students to research and present their findings and also an excellent opportunity for the project management teaching fraternity to network and discuss about current research trends. The call for papers received enthusiastic response and 122 papers were received. After a double blind peer review process, 49 papers were presented at the conference and 38 papers were included in the conference proceedings. The conference theme and proceedings reinforced the need for qualified project professionals in today’s increasingly disruptive environment. Although thousands of engineering and business programs exist today, they sorely lack in project management programs. These colleges are missing out on grooming the next generation of business leaders. The objective of this conference was to highlight that more and more academic institutions and universities need to start teaching project management and recognize the widespread benefits and continue to introduce elements [of project management] across their academic programs.
