Ludhiana, August 1, 2014: Sanjay Goel, Chairman – The Indian Institute of Architects - Ludhiana Centre (IIA-LC) has written to the Prime Minister, regarding involvement of international architects for Grand National War Museum at New Delhi.
He wrote do not involve foreign architects (as they read in a daily on July 28, 2014) for upcoming Grand National War Memorial at New Delhi.
Indian Architects have highest potential in the world and many of them are designing buildings not only in India but in many other parts of the world also.
As India is 2nd largest populated country in the world and is already having more than 60,000 qualified architects including many of international fame, the idea to look for architects from abroad for National War Memorial seems to be very surprising to us.
We at our National Institute of Architects level think that Grand National War Memorial must be designed by any leading Indian Architect only after an open competition among them and that will be true respect to the Nation as well as War Memorial.
“Otherwise also for a building like Grand War Memorial to be built in the memory of those who lost their lives mainly fighting with other country forces, we should not give that opportunity to foreign architects to design that upcoming building”, Goel said.
