Chandigarh, April 27, 2015: The IGU Yes Bank Haryana Junior Boys Golf Championship was held at the Golden Greens Golf Club, Manesar, Haryana during April 20-24, 2015. Chandigarh’s Karandeep Kochhar won the tournament with a score of 292. Coming in second was Kartik Sharma from Delhi with a score of 293, while Mohd. Wasil, also from Delhi, bagged third place with a score of 293. The par score for the tournament was 288.
Yes Bank is at the forefront of India’s sports development movement, as a part of which, the Bank signed a multi-year deal with the Indian Golf Union (IGU) Junior Tour for 3 years commencing with the 2014 season. The tour comprises 11 tournaments including 4-zonals (North, South, East and West) and a Final. Over 250 junior golfers from across the country compete in the annual tournament to represent India in the national Junior squad. The 2015 tour opener at Jaipur, witnessed over 75 talented players between the ages of 13-17 years, competing in two groups.
Rana Kapoor, Managing Director & CEO, Yes Bank said: “Golf in India today is largely a youth driven sport, and while the IGU, India’s apex golf body, has spearheaded promotion and development of the sport since 1955, golf still finds itself in a nascent stage in India, compared to neighboring Asian countries like Thailand and Malaysia. The last few years have seen a surge in development of golf infrastructure, trained caddies and support staff, professional coaches and facilities in India, under the aegis of IGU. Although there has been substantial corporate sponsorship and media build up in recent years, golf in India still offers extensive untapped opportunities”.
The next leg of this tour will be the IGU YES BANK Northern India Juniors tournament at Army Environmental Park & Training Area (APETA), New Delhi. In addition to the Indian Golf Union, YES BANK has also partnered with a number of apex golf bodies like Women's Golf Association of India and The Golf Foundation for their flagship golf events.
