Huge demand for fruit products produced by horticulture department

-Squash, pickle, jam , sauce records great demand
Ludhiana, June 30, 2019: Fruit products produced by the Horticulture department has recorded an astonishing success towards the diversification efforts of the Punjab government as their products like squash, pickle, sauce, marmalade, jelly have earned huge demand by people around the Ludhiana. The main aim behind the efforts of the department was to ensure the availability of home products on reasonable rates besides providing the much needed market rates to the farmers engaged in horticulture activities.
Jagdev singh, Deputy Director, Horticulture Department said that the department has started the campaign to encourage the people to plant the fruit plants and grown them without pesticides. He said that the department is providing free of cost vegetable seed kits besides fruit plants. He said that now the department is also supplying fruit products squash, pickle and jelly on no profit no loss basis.
He informed that the "fruit Protective lab " at Ludhiana has produced squash from mango, Litchi , kinnow, pine apple which recorded great demand across the state.
He also said that the department has also starting the supply to other districts like Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Ferozepur, Faridkot and Taran Taran after soaring demand.
Meanwhile Dr. Harmel Singh, HDO has said that to encourage the farmers for kitchen garden, the department has supplied 5000 seed kits without charging any amount.
