HPCA to develop sub-centres exclusively for women cricketers

Dharamshala: In a press release here BCCI treasurer and HPCA President Arun Dhumal said that on the occasion of 70th anniversary of India’s Independence, Himachal Pradesh Cricket association (HPCA) launched “Mission-70” an initiative to create cricket sub-centres in the state by our mentor former HPCA President Anurag Thakur. “The core objective of it, is to identify raw talent from rural areas, provide them with sporting infrastructure and nurture them as the future players who could bring laurels to the state and the country,” added Dhumal. He further added that these sub centres have been a runaway success and sought after in the rural areas providing training to approximately 1400 young cricketers of the state.
“In the second phase, HPCA is planning to develop at least one sub-centre exclusively for Women cricketers in each District preferably in a Girls School. In this connection, we are scouting for areas for Women Sub Centre along with NOC from the respective authorities to HPCA for further necessary action,” he said
He further elaborate , “We feel that the girls of our small hill state have tremendous sporting potential and given the right ecosystem and facilities can do very well at the national level as has been proved by our women cricketers, last week 6 of them were selected for the Indian A and under 23. Indian team against Australia and Bangladesh. Our women cricketers are performing consistently well at the national level and the day is not far when they will form the main stay of the senior team, we are committed to provide the best infrastructure and training to our women cricketers and this is our step in that direction to identify the latent.”
“Talent in rural areas and all the districts of Himachal, which will then be groomed to take bigger responsibilities”, said BCCI treasurer and HPCA President Arun Dhumal.
